The fact that Internet forums are a good source of free advertising has already been well documented. What is however, not well known is that there are ways to optimize the whole process. Tip 1: Study the Terrain

It would do you good to do some reconnaissance before you get on to the battleground - metaphorically speaking. What I imply here is, look around the forums, see the kinds of posts that people are putting up, read various postings, and only then, slowly and gradually, start posting yourself. This will help you immensely, to focus your postings, and in a way your entire efforts, in the right direction.

Tip 2: Sublime Subtlety is Bliss!

Once you start posting, do not be too direct in them. First focus on establishing your reputation as a quality poster who knows a lot about the topics that people are discussing. Gradually, and in a reasonably indirect manner, start promoting your business or whatever else you intend to promote through these forums. Very direct, in-your-face kind of promotional messages are only likely to be ignored by the community at large.

Tip 3: Don't Go Overboard

A lot of Internet marketers that I know, end up spending too much time on Internet forums. Remember that these forums are essentially, only providing you an additional back link, and not much else. So, if you spend say an hour a day on these for a week, you would have effectively spent an entire day only on forum posting. In addition, it would be almost criminal if you ended up spending a lot of time in reading other posts. So, be rational and judgmental while spending your time and efforts on forum advertising.
