Default Sky to Sky+

Not a loophole but a question. I already have normal sky, say if i bought a sky+ of ebay or something seeing as the subscription price is the same, could i not just plug the sky+ box in with all my old sky cables and be able to record tv and shizz?

Smile Re: Sky to Sky+

I am sorry to say it is not easy as that the sky+ box has two cables coming from the LNB so you would have to upgrade your LNB on the end of the dish and run another cable to your sky+ box to a 4 port LNB then you would have to phone sky and then marry you sky card to your new sky+ box before any subscription channels could be shown but I think you dont have to pay subcription of £10 to use sky+ no more

Woah a lot more complicated, if i dont go for another LNB i would be able to have sky+ just not record and watch another channel at the same time?

Thumbs up Re: Sky to Sky+

If you get a sky+ you can use it just like the old vcr's if you only have 1 feed

I'm no expert on Sky+ but yes with just one feed I guess you should be able to record whatever you are watching.

Now the reason you need two feeds I believe is because the channels are polarised either vertically or horizontally and the situation could and will exist where one channel is not the same polarisation as the other.

A voltage is sent from the Sky+ to the LNB to determine polarisation.

What would happen if you split a single feed into both inlets on the Sky+ - would you be able to record one and watch the other providing both channels are polarised the same way ???

I am making a educated guess here I dont think spliting a cable would work for sky+ if it was that simple they would not have developed a multi port LNB and after all this is sky we are talking about they are out to make a buck but when I am bored one day I will experiment with my own equipment and give you a definate answer ....but I would have to be really bored if you seen the amount of cables I have behind the TV it will take a while to sort out lol
