I used to work for a cell phone store. You have to have a cell phone and a current cell phone contract. Call your cell phone carrier and tell them you are going on vacation to Europe and you need them to unlock your phone. They will send you an unlock code and instructions how to unlock your phone. Now you are free to use any network.

Go to a cell phone store preferrable one in a truck stop. You can't go to a t mobile store and do this they will know what's up.

You tell the clerk you need a new sim card. Which will change your phone number Buy the card. It can be from any carrier. Activate the card. Which you don't need the cell phone company to do. The clerk can do it for you there. Now you are using a cell phone for free. Let your friends know your new number.

This may be illegal. I know a LOT of people who do this Basically you are running under the radar. It would be best to do this when your current contract is expiring. Just make sure you have your phone unlocked before you cancel your contract.
