Reclaiming Bank Charges

I am about to enter into the messy business of reclaiming bank charges, credit card charges and payment protection insurance charges. Anyone done this themselves - and succeeded. Step by step guide would be most appreciated.

I tried in the UK to claim back 120 UK Pounds of my bank for overcharge but i was told there is no way of getting that back. Say if a company tries to take money and you have told your bank not to pay them, but they still attempt to take money and you have nothing in, You will get charged -£30, But if you told the bank not to give the money and they did, then you can claim the money back, else there is no way.
