Online poker continues to grow at a phenomenal rate. And the vast majority of new players simply haven't got a clue how to play. Number Of Players

What Hands To Play and How To Play Them

8 to 10 players

In the early stages you MUST fold the majority of hands. At this stage only play these hands...
AA, KK and QQ - go ALL IN.
AK - bet 50% of your chips in early position and 75% in late position.
Limp in (check or call the big blind) with any other pair, suited connectors or Ace with any suited card.
DO NOT play any other starting hand. The bad players will knock each other out at this stage.

6 & 7 players

Continue with the previous strategy but stop playing suited connectors and low pairs unless you have a comfortable chip lead. Every action should be RAISE or FOLD. Never call at this stage.

4 & 5 players

At this stage, players will tighten up their play because they will be hoping to finish in the money. You can now loosen up your starting hands when you're on the button in order to steal the blinds. Bully short-stacked players by doubling their blinds every hand. But don't be afraid to fold if you're re-raised and you don't have a premium hand.

3 players

You're now in the money so be VERY aggressive. At least double the blinds EVERY hand and don't be afraid to go ALL IN even with moderate hands.

2 players

If you are the chip leader you must at least double the blinds EVERY hand. If you are a massive chip leader then put your opponent ALL IN with any half decent hand. If you are the short-stack then go ALL IN with any pair, suited connectors, Ace with any suited card and all premium hands.

Obviously there is a lot more to being a successful Poker player than simply following the above guide. However, this simple strategy alone is enough to guarantee you success at any online Poker site. In fact, using the above strategy and playing just two $20 tables simultaneously will almost guarantee an income of more than $20 an hour!

I play poker online and have got to the stage now where I just break even. I mainly just play sit and gos though, I've just bought Dan Harrington's new books on cash games so I hope to move into ring games and start actually making money. Can't complain at breaking even.

I just opened up my old Titan poker account. Turns out I left about £50 from when I was testing various odd calculators about a year ago. Im sure a lot of you have come across Texas Calculatem at some point or other. A waste of time I found, more for psycological reasons than pure stats. These bots will make you loose you patience and drive you to play "statistically strong" hands but when it comes down to it a bot will never be able to determine a players hand based on his betting pattern. People can bluff at random stages, be conservative in others and be agressive perhaps in moments of anger . Even as an aide the bots are misleading rather than helpful. I believe poker,even online poker, is better played with skill and refined instinct (with a little luck thrown in).

Anyways I am now researching some Sit N Go strategies with this £50 based on the above blueprint but a little more detailed. Played a couple of hours so far and the current balance is at about £70. I am inclined to never trust early results though so I will keep on testing for a couple of weeks and post my progress to the forum.

Oh and Mr Numbers. Ring games?

Good luck with the sit and gos. I know what you mean about the calculators although I do think they are good for beginners in early stages of tournaments.

Hi, I won £500 on pacific poker about three years ago, one night when i was very drunk i played in a $5/$10 cash game and all i did was fold or raise (mostly raise) the aggression seemed to pay off. Then the next night i played sober and lost the lot.

Actually I remember an interview with Victoria Coren where she said it wasn't such a bad idea to play poker while drunk, because it upped your aggression factor and could often prove profitable.

But of course table maniacs are very profitable for those who know how to deal with them!
