Tip #1
Just because you have the best hand, does not mean you need to bet it that way. You may bring in more chips if you check and allow your opponent to bet. If they think they have cards, let them lead the bets. At the end of the hand make a substantial raise but don't go over the top as you may scare them off.
Tip #2
You will find that tip#1. is very handy when playing the position of small or big blind. The best position for betting is being the dealer (puck), as you can watch how all other players react to or bet their cards.
Tip#3
Be careful when playing pocket aces. If the hand shifts into all-ins before the flop, take care to notice how many players are in the hand. If 4-5 players are in the hand the chances of you hitting another Ace gets slim. Odds are one or more players willing to go all-in will be holding some of your aces. With this # of other players, you may likely see a straight or flush that will beat your aces. If there are 2-3 players, your chances are better with your aces.
Tip#4
On some hands you will find people chasing...that is hopping to hit a flush or a straight. If you have the high pair or better you can scare them off by making a strong bet. While they may have the better hand in the long run, It only pays out for them if they call your bet/raise.
Tip#5
Bet the trips. If the community cards hit a pair, it isn't difficult to scare people out of the hand. If you make an above average bet, most players will fold out. This comes in handy later in the game when the blinds are up.
Tip #6
Be a good sport. Emotions can run high in a game, but remember it is a game. Each game must have winners and losers. Be courteous in victory and defeat.
Tip #7
Keep monitoring your opponents chip stacks. This will help dictate when and how much you should bet. Players with less chips can be intimidated more easily than those with a big stack.
Tip #8
Your # of outs will lesson as the hand progresses.(outs-potential final hand) Example your hand- As Ks.(great starting hand)....the flop-10s Jh 9d.(you have a potential top pair, 3 of a kind, straight, a flush, straight flush, or royal flush.).......the turn-7c.(you have a potential top pair, or straight.) Your outs went from 6 - 2. Only A, K, or Q will help. keep this in mind when betting heavy early in the hand, the cards can change pretty fast.
Tip #9
Alcohol will impair your game. I admit I will drink when I play, but that is 3-4 over 4-5 hrs. If you have too many you will make snap decisions, miss key points in the game, and exaggerate your bets. Why do you think the drinks are free/cheep in Vegas casinos.
Tip #10
Tells - a subconscious signal you emit as moods change. Everyone has them. Seeing it in others means attention to detail and subtlety's .It takes lots of concentration to avoid doing it, the smallest movement or twitch could be your tell. Observe people as they look at their cards and the seconds following. You need to identify what yours are. Be careful not to develop new ones as you suppress the identified ones. Stay calm and relaxed, and just enjoy the game.
