Tracking fingers with the Wii Remote

Using an IR led array and some reflective tape, you can track fingers in thin air using the Wii Remote.

The Wii Remote has an infrared camera in the front that is normally watching for the infrared LEDs that are mounted in the sensor bar. This camera is actually quite sensitive and can be used for some cool things! Jcl5m has come up with a method that uses reflected IR light from small reflectors to provide the Minority Report style interaction.

Take a look at

We`ve made a flysimulator where you only use your hands (gloves with 4 ir-diodes attached to it) to steer the spaceship.

We`ve made multiple steering possibilities, you can fire missiles by squeezing two fingers, decide the speed by pressing the other two fingers together and drag up or down, etc.

The red cross and the yellow dot you see on the screen represents two of the ir-diodes, and you see how the spaceship moves accordingly.

Wow, That game looks truly amazing, and it must be fun to play. Are you sure its a hack or will it be an official release?

It`s a hack. We used Lee`s code to communicate with the wiimote. It will not be released, being a school project and all.
